VALVE WORLD EXPO DUSSELDORF

DELIVERING 16 STALLS IN ONE GO!

In the world renowned VALVE WORLD EXPO event in Düsseldorf, Germany, conducted from November 29th to December 1st, 722 companies from across the globe participated and over 12000 visitors graced the event. Both the participants and the visitors were from the fields of oil and gas industry, chemical industry, power engineering, mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, engine and vehicle manufacturing and the food industry. From India, over 35 companies had participated and the contract for fabrication of stalls of 16 of them was bagged by us at Focus Design. This was owing to our history of having worked with most of them before on a number of occasions and having developed good working relationships with them.

THE SCALE:

Although we had started working on the designs and the fabrication of these stalls almost 10-12 weeks prior to the commencement of the event, the sheer collective scale of the project demanded that we push our limits to accomplish the task we had set out to do. This was all the more important as we just had 3 days to work on site, which meant that we had to extensively work beforehand and leave as little as possible to the last minute. Another aspect that we had to be particular about was making sure that all the stalls we created (having sizes from 9 sq mtrs to 40 sq mts) stood out in their own individual way and we demonstrate the versatility we are capable of.

THE WORK:

A strong and experienced team and sound planning is what helped us deliver the project in time. At the onset, our designers wasted no time in getting the stall designs finalised as per the preferences and the requirements of the clients. Having worked with them before worked in our favour as we understood the sensibilities of each client and presented designs accordingly. During the working of this project, we got fresh opportunities to nurture relationships with our newer clients and helped our older clients to reinforce their belief in our working methods and capabilities. The team then worked round the clock to get every little detail sorted beforehand. But most important of all, we made extensive checklists to ensure that nothing among the plethora of minor deliverables we had promised gets missed on account of the simultaneous work that was going on these many stalls.

THE RESULT:

The most satisfactory of our achievements at the culmination of our months of hard-work was the timely delivery of all the stalls, some of them having being delivered ahead of schedule. This was made possible because of the team work of the designers, fabricators and the co-ordinators. The checklists we had diligently worked on came in extremely handy in ensuring there were no last minute unfulfilled requirements.

Moreover, we managed to up our ante and match up to the international standards when it came up to the design, fabrication and the maintenance of the stalls as they were appreciated by one and all. The biggest of those stalls particularly (39 sq mt), the one we created for Rajan Techno Cast Pvt Ltd, stood out because of the aesthetic design we had created, primarily in black, white and red, and had illuminated with soft lights. Apart from these, the stalls we created for Defree Engineering Pvt Ltd, Metflow Cast Pvt Ltd and C.R.I. Pumps Pvt Ltd were highly appreciated. Also, in the event, ours were the only designs that featured curvatures, which are very difficult to get created with finesse.

OUR TAKEAWAYS:

Our primary learning from this extensive exercise has been the reinforcement of the fact that a sound working relationship with a client is very important as these bonds go a long way in the growth of our businesses.  Apart from this, our belief that a managerial skills are essential for any business was also validated.

But most importantly, we got a chance to demonstrate once again that we are capable enough to stand our own on an international platform and are equipped to undertake projects of such magnitudes.
